  3. Business Coaching Can Help You Understand Why Mistakes are Made

December 5, 2011 by Venture Coaching

Here is a story:  The boss goes out to visit a client, in his file is the all-important documentation that needs signing.  Now, this isn’t something new, his systems and staff know the deal.  Their goal when the job is complete is to prepare the documentation pack and put it in the file ready for review and signing.  So the boss drives 45 minutes to his client and just before he goes in opens up the file and finds no documentation pack…

Of course, perhaps, he should have checked before he left, and that is something he has learnt.  It could have been easy to now vent his frustration on the staff member responsible and berate them for failing to do their task.  Added to this when questioned there was no logical reason but a whole lot of guilt and feelings of letting everyone down…

At Venture Coaching, we use the Judgement Index with clients to help them identify areas that require coaching and assistance on.

By completing the Judgement Index, one of the areas highlighted by the report on this member of staff is that they get distracted easily.  In fact, this person is an outstanding member of the team and produces some great work and gets it right nearly all the time.

Now that everyone, including the member of staff, knows they easily get distracted everyone can make a better judgement of the situation and adapt and modify some very small behavioural patterns in their daily task to help prevent this from happening again.

  4. Why What When How?

November 28, 2011 by Venture Coaching

Do you know why you are in business?

Do you know what you are aiming for?

Do you know how you are going to achieve it?

When are you going to get it done?

If you involved a child in your business decisions, they would ask simple questions and often not understand the complicated justifications we all give from time to time justify to anyone who listens…

Sometimes you need to ask very simple questions…

Why are you in business? “To make money” isn’t a proper answer. Instead ask yourself “What does running my own business give me?”  Freedom? Respect? Security? Pride? Personal Growth?

What are you trying to achieve? “To be successful” isn’t a measurable answer… What are you really trying to achieve? £ 1 million turnover a year/week/day? Four months holiday per year? An award winning product or service?

Do you know how you will achieve your goals? “Keep doing what I am doing” isn’t really a plan. Those who fail to plan… well you know the rest!

When do you think it will be done?  You may plan to be in business for the next 40 years, but what about your short term plans for the next 12 months? What are you going to get done in the next 30 days?

Keep asking Why? What? How? When? Create you future by design.

  5. Young Entrepreneur’s Business Start Up

November 27, 2011 by Venture Coaching

It has been reported, that the number of 16-24 year olds involved in business start-ups has gone up from 26,000 in 2008 to over 30,000 in 2010.

If someone over 25 years old starts their own business there’s a 50:50 chance of it surviving for more than 3 years,

But it’s closer to a one in three chance for the under 25s.

One explanation for this is that people in their late teens or early 20s don’t tend to have as much experience, business know-how or cash.

At Venture Coaching we have many years of experience working with all ages of business owners, including business start-ups, we understand what it takes to run a business and we have access to some very powerful information that will provide you with an incredible source of knowledge to help you succeed.

If you are or you know someone between the age of 16 and 25 who is looking to start-up in business, please get them to register their interest with us here for our exciting Young Entrepreneur’s business star-up workshop being launched in January 2012.

  6. Succeeding in a recession

November 21, 2011 by Venture Coaching

We believe that whatever you do, however well you are doing, there is always room for improvement:  Whether it’s making money, having great personal and work relationships or taking better care of yourself.

There are only two things that drive our actions:  Getting away from what we don’t want and moving towards what we do want.  Ironically, the only thing standing between what we have and what we want is US!

By gaining a better understanding of what motivates you and where your weak points lie, your work and personal life can only be improved.  You will still have challenges, but you will deal with them better.

You will find yourself wanting to spend more time with positive influences and less time with people who drain you.  If you are in business, it will become essential for you to build a team with a great attitude.  Your focus will shift; you will spend less time thinking about why something can’t work and more time identifying how it can.

We live in a world where it has never been easier for a motivated person to become massively successful, regardless of what the economy is doing.

    Let’s do it!

  7. ANTS… Automatic Negative Thinking

November 18, 2011 by Venture Coaching

See, I thought that people who were experts in positive mental attitude, the pioneers of the industry, and the true inspirational speakers of our generation…  I thought they all lived a life of pure positive thinking, never having doubts, never having negative thoughts.  After all, when I read their books, or listen to their CDs I often felt inspired, uplifted, but then I would think, “Well it’s OK for you, you have developed the skills to stay positive about everything, you don’t understand the day I have had, you have no idea of the problems I am faced with”  and so on…

But then I got to spend a truly magical time with Diana Nightingale a chance to chat and talk about many things, and she taught me something very important…ANTS Automatic Negative Thinking

ANTS “Automatic Negative Thoughts”  we ALL get them, as humans we are programmed to think of the negative first, and yep even people like Diana have them, just like you and me they have challenges in life and negative thoughts, but guess what I found out?

It’s OK to have negative thoughts, but how you respond to them is the truly important part…

If you don’t know who Diana is, read more here and learn more about her.  I have been listening to the “Strangest Secret” off and on since the early 1990’s. It’s the one bit of information I come back to again and again for inspiration.

  8. A Simple Time Management Idea courtesy of Earl Nightingale

    by Venture Coaching

This has been taken from Earl Nightingale’s classic “Keys to Success in Real Estate” programme.

A president of a steel company wanted to increase his own efficiency, and of his management team.  He didn’t want more knowing… he wanted more doing and offered Ivy Lee, a well-known efficiency expert of the time anything within reason if he could show a better way of getting it done:

Ivy Lee explained that he could improve his and the companies efficiency by 50%.

Make a list of the six most important things you have to do today and number them in their order of importance.

Then work through item 1 to the best of your ability until you can go no further and then move on to item 2 and so forth, don’t worry if you can’t do them all, just focus on the most important task.

This way you will be working on the most important tasks and if you can’t finish them all by this method you can never finish them by any other method.

Ivy Lee said to the president, try this for as long as you like and then send me a cheque for whatever you think it is worth…

Three months later, Ivy Lee received a cheque for US$25,000.  At the time, the average worker in the US was being paid $2 per day.

  10. How can the Judgement Index help a business?

November 12, 2011 by Venture Coaching

Each person is asked to complete a simple test.  It works by asking an individual, based on their unique personal value system, to rank two sets of 18 selections from best to worst.  Even though it only takes about 15 minutes to complete, the logic and the mathematics used to score the Index are highly sophisticated.

In fact, there are over six quadrillion possible combinations of selections; based on these and some very sophisticated analysis, an individual’s capacity for judgement is measured.

Venture Coaching put on a retreat at Bath Lodge Castle to a company of business professionals, the results once explained, soon opened up a huge amount of understanding and empathy from the other members allowing them to appreciate each other strengths and weaknesses concluding in some truly valuable lessons with some clear directions as to what had to be achieved next.  The Castle provided the perfect atmosphere and set the scene for an important memorable moment in time where people will look back and be reminded of the trigger point to new and exciting decisions that followed.
